IMPORTANT: Effective beginning on January 1, 2011, over-the-counter medicines or drugs (e.g. Advil, Ibuprofen, cough syrup) are not eligible for reimbursement under an FSA, without a doctor’s prescription. Insulin is the only medicine that doesn’t require a prescription. Also supplies that you need for medical care (e.g. contact lens solutions, bandages for wounds, thermometers) will continue to be eligible for reimbursement.
As such, upcoming enrollment in your employer’s flexible spending account should take into consideration as of 1/1/2011, over the counter items will no longer be reimbursable under the health FSA.

Important Things To Remember For 2010

  1. Mineral Wells ISD Cafeteria plan year is February 1, 2010 through January 31, 2011


  2. MGM continues as the Third Party Administrator (TPA) for Mineral Wells ISD Flexible Spending accounts, (ie, Medical and Child Care Reimbursement), for the coming plan year.


  3. IMPORTANT! If you participated in the Medical Reimbursement Account in the past and you were issued a Benny Card, DO NOT THROW IT AWAY if you are going to participate in the 2010 plan year. The same Benny Card is good for up to 5 years, so please keep it in a safe place and your new election for the 2010 plan year will be loaded onto the same card.


  4. receipts for ALL Medical expenses should be kept in case of audit. Remember that the debit card cannot be used for dental expenses.


  5. The Direct Reimbursement dental plan is offered again and there are two options available. There is a High Plan and a Low Plan option available for employees to choose from; the rates for the High Option plan will increase slightly effective 3/1/10 but the Low Option premiums remain the same for the coming year.   6. The Vision plan with Humana/CompBenefits will be offered again this year. The rates will remain the same for the coming year. See additional plan information and rates under the Benefit Highlights link/Vision.


  7. Unum continues as the Disability carrier. Employees may still enroll and/or increase their monthly benefit amount up to 66 2/3% of gross salary without evidence of good health. *Guarantee issue amounts are subject to pre-existing condition limitations. there are two plan options to choose from; Option B for a 2-year benefit payout; Plan A rates will increase slightly for the coming year beginning in February but the benefits on this plan continue to pay to age 65; the new option will be discussed at the campus meetings.


  8. NEW TERM LIFE CARRIER THIS YEAR!! 5 star Life has been chosen to replace Mutual of Omaha plan for the coming year. Employees can apply for 7 times annual salary up to $500,000,, 50% of employee election up to $250,000 for spouse and 50% of employee election up to $10,000 for children! All Enrollees are Guaranteed coverage up to 7 times salary or $150,000, $50,000 for spouse and $10,000 for children if application is made this year only.


  9. American Public Life will continue as the offering for the Cancer insurance for the coming year. Previous grandfathered cancer plans will continue to be payroll deducted but the carriers are no longer accepting new applications. the APL plan is a group plan and a paper application will need to be completed.


  10. Continued benefit plan options include: Direct Reimbursement Dental, Vision, Disability, Cancer, GroupTerm Life insurance, Permanent Term life, and Flexible Spending Accounts.
